Sewing Days [Technicolor Wonder Bag]

I fondly call this one my "Technicolor Wonder" bag.

Full front.

I forgot to put pockets on the inside, so I converted the fabric I had cut out for the pockets to the patch on the front.

Meticulously top stitched straps.

Sewing Days [Music Bag]

This one was the last one I made back on the 17th. I like it, but because I used the wide ribbon for the strap, it's not very strong. I currently have my guitar music books in it, and it will work, though I think I might fix it and make the strap stronger somehow.

Love the fabric!

Clasp in the middle to help keep the bag from collapsing since it's so wide. Also closeup of the ribbon binding.

Sewing Days [Bucket Bag Purse]

I made this back on the 17th during my Sewing Day too. It's a "bucket bag" and I called it my "Let Them Eat Cake" purse.

Full on

I've had the cake fabric and the floral fabric (binding) for a while. I finally decided to make a bag out of it.

Fabric closeup.

Inside : Green polka dots were something bought for a skirt I still need to make for  Miss Katya. I bought extra of the fabric, however, so I had enough for the inside of this too.

There are pockets on both sides, this pocket is interfaced for strength and divided into a cell phone, pen, and "other" (I keep my emergency granola bar in it) pocket.

Sewing Days [Babysitting Bag]

To get into more cheerful territory than my last rant post...yesterday (January 17th) I decreed was a sewing day. It turned out to be the perfect day for it...dark, dreary, and eventually quite windy. I had several bags I had cut out over the past year or more and they needed to be sewn. I got 3 of the 4 (possibly 5) I wanted to get done but I will do more today.
This is the first one I totally finished, straps and all. I call it my babysitting bag, because the little girl I babysit loves farm animals and I need a bag I can just call my babysitting bag and nothing more.

Full on

Fabric Closeup

Inside. I had 2 pockets cut out but they were just too much work so I only put one in.
I also put a lightweight cardboard bottom in it in addition to the already interfaced sides since I normally bring math and/or science along to babysitting to work on before she gets up from her nap.

End tabs on the pockets, underside. (This is the lining fabric; I liked it better than the outside but generally speaking the rule of thumb is to put a large print on the outside and the small print on the inside. So I stayed inside the box. ;)

A Short Rant regarding Pan Am

I'm not one to write rants on my blog...that's my mom's department. But in the case, I need to write it somewhere.
I've enjoyed watching the TV show Pan Am. It's set in the early 60's...following the lives (and lots of loves) of two pilots and 4 Pan Am stewardesses. The first several episodes were very enjoyable. Delightful costumes, "okay" storylines. But then, I think, their ratings started going down.
So, they figured, we have to do something to get these ratings up.
Every single week the episodes starting becoming chock full of "boy/girl" stuff. It was annoying, but for a couple episodes nothing was that explicit. It was mostly just hinted at...a kiss here and a kiss there...more innuendos than anything.
And then...I believe it started last episode, or maybe the episode before...they started going whole-hog...not just stopping at the kissing and "hints" here and there.
There was still a good bit of the CIA/espionage/iron curtain storyline going on with one of the stewardesses (who is a CIA spy/courier) and so I endured flipping to the weather channel to wait out the inappropriate stuff to watch the good stuff.
But LAST NIGHT.
OH MY WORD.
I had seen last night's episode preview last week at the end of last week's episode.
What happened was hinted at, but I was hoping it was one of those previews where they "showed too much" and therefore what happened wasn't really going to happen...they were just trying to fake you out.
I wish.
Pan Am showcased their very first Lesbian kiss.
Now, putting aside for the fact that I think (my personal opinion...keep this in mind) homosexuality is sodomy and a sin and that the Bible speaks out against it.
IT'S NOT EVEN HISTORICALLY ACCURATE.
The Lesbian kiss occurred in a room off of a "high-class" party where there were lots of "high-class" people attending. The doors were open, anyone could have walked by and seen it happening.
BACK THEN, homosexuality was still considered sodomy by the majority of the American public. Homosexuals were outcasts from society. They were banned from 'normal' social life...a display like a Lesbian kiss in a semi-public place would have been grounds for arrest and imprisonment back then.
IT WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED.
Oh, and let me make this clear...in a big city, which is where they were, they would have been arrested and imprisoned. In rural areas they would have been beaten and possibly even killed.
It wasn't until the 80's and 90's that homosexuality started becoming an "acceptable" way of life in America.
I'm sorry, Pan Am. You lost a very loyal fan here over that one. I get that your show is not supposed to be a documentary, but please. At least try to stick to the facts.
Badly done, ABC. Badly done.
